Position title: Director of Programs

Reporting to: Executive Director

Position summary                                                                                   

The director of programs is responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all the agency’s programs in accordance with the standards set out by the organization. As a member of the senior management team, the director of programs participates in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving. He/she works within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.

Duties and responsibilities

Human resource management

  • Direct, plan and coordinate the work of the program staff including supervision and evaluation, training and team building
  • Organize and attend weekly departmental meetings to maintain effective communication
  • Ensure adequate and qualified staff to carry out the program activities
  • In consultation with the executive director, responsible for the selection, hiring, coaching, and discipline of the program employees

Program delivery

  • Responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all activities of the programs in accordance with agency standards.
  • Remain up-to-date on all modifications to the guidelines for implementing the programs in a timely and organized manner
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of the data management software
  • Compile, maintain and report on the monthly, quarterly and annual program statistics
  • Analyze trends in the program, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions to the executive director
  • Maintain daily contact with program staff
  • Promote a productive work environment at all times
  • Develop partnerships and maintain communication with parents, community leaders and organizations
  • Implement, manage, supervise and evaluate all day-to-day activities related to the programs
  • Develop, implement and evaluate recruitment strategies to expand the number of volunteers to support the program
  • Develop, implement and evaluate recruitment strategies to expand the number of clients participating in the program
  • Coordinate, supervise and recruit work-study students and subcontractors for the program.
  • Work with fiscal and management staff to ensure the control of expenditures against the grant budget
  • Oversee compliance with DCYF licensing regulations for program requirements
  • Conduct regular staff meetings
  • Articulate the agency’s mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies in a professional manner
  • Positively represent the agency’s mission and standards at all times
  • The director of programs will participate in community tables deemed appropriate
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field i.e. human services, health or education
  • Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sound computer skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Access to a vehicle
  • Bilingual preferred

 Working conditions/physical requirements:  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Limited travel is required; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.  Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.  Includes the ability to stand, walk, run, crouch, and do moderate lifting up to 50 lbs.
