| Volunteers
The Mt. Hope Learning Center has been volunteer-driven since its inception.
Before we could open our doors at 140 Cypress Street, over 450 volunteers rehabilitated our facility, with more than 140 businesses donating labor and materials. Since 1998, over 700 volunteers
have provided the Learning Center with vital help. Currently
we need volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring,
homework help, teaching, music lessons, building maintenance, plants/gardening,
cooking classes, arts & crafts, and committee work, and more. We know
your time is valuable to you and it is extremely important to us.
Come visit us, speak with staff, take a tour, meet the community
and fill out a volunteer application. We can be as flexible as need
be if you are willing to give us a little of your time, effort and
talent.
Current Positions
Building Maintenance Specialist (WORD/PDF) - Help oversee and conduct repairs at the Mt. Hope Learning Center and ensure that we can continue in our educational mission
The Mt. Hope Learning Center hosts several programs, houses community resources, and provides a space for our volunteers to
plan lessons and activities, but it is an aging building in need of serious maintenance. Every effort made to keep the center in
good condition contributes immensely to the services the community
receives, so if you are handy around a house and can donate some
of your time and expertise, we would welcome your help.
Marketing and Public Relations Specialist (WORD/PDF) - Improve our public outreach and thereby strengthen our ability to serve the community
If you have a creative streak and a knack for reaching out to people, consider putting those talents to use at the MHLC. We have been providing the Mt. Hope community with educational programs and services for over a decade, but we could use your help in telling that story. A powerful message will help us get the word out in the neighborhood and connect with potential stakeholders in Rhode Island and beyond.
Fundraising Specialist (WORD/PDF) - Forge connections with potential donors to secure the resources we need to continue providing valuable community programs
If you are a dynamic, persuasive communicator and can effectively reach out to potential benefactors, the MHLC could use your skills. By volunteering, you will have the chance to engage donors from many levels of Rhode Island society, and in helping them see how valuable their contributions are to the mission and goals of the Learning Center, your efforts will advance our ability to provide high-quality educational services to Mt. Hope.
Other volunteer opportunities include:
Teaching a 6 or 10-week course - one hour per week in a subject of your expertise
Committee work (events, finance, etc.)
Plant and Bake Sale (coming in May)
Office Assistance
Gardening
